What's up in June?

Postby windyscotty » Sun Dec 16, 2012 12:45 pm

It has been very quiet up there, and I was just wondering what is going on?

They had their tree lighting in the village last night.

Lots of special events planned for the future this winter.

Is anyone doing cross country ski gigs or grooming?

How many visitors are coming there on weekdays or weekends? Is it active or getting ghosty?

Doesn't look like much snow and not enough to do some serious mountaineering. Coming up maybe. You really need about 12 feet. That is how much snow there was when I lived there in the early 80s.

^^In the middle of December? And it's actually kinda hard to do "serious mountaineering" in town. I think there's a bit more snow in the mountains around here. In fact I'm quite sure of it.

Anyways, BS without pics.

I should hope there is more snow in your mountains, because it looks scant down here in Bishop Creek. It looks like it is snowing up there every day but nothing accumulates.

That winter I lived in June was amazing. That twelve feet of snow killed some people on the highway in avalanches and shut the road into town down for three days. I worked in Mammoth and lived in fear having to drive back to June at night in heavy snow.

However, the mountaineer skiing was perfect with few obstacles and wide open. Twelve feet of snow on the flat on Deadman is a lot of snow. It was hard to find a place to park and climb up the wall-it was so deep.

Okay, here's some stuff that's going on this winter in June.

Saturday Night Music; Dec. 15 - March 16 2013. Live music at different locations around June Lake, every Saturday night.

June Lake Winter Festival; Feb. 1-3 2013, Join the whole town for snow-sculpting, snowman building and the first-ever Triple Threat Winter Triathlon - snowshoeing, cross country skiing and shooting!

June Lake Snowmobile Rally; March 8 - 10, 2013. Festivities include a snowmobile poker run, scenic tours, night rides and more! Cash and prized up for grabs. Snowmobile rental available.

I'm looking forward to the snowmobile rally. I hope SkierBob makes it too.

WS, you should come up for the snowman building and make a few that look like aliens...

Dear Friends and Partners in June Lake -

By way of introduction, we have the pleasure to be working with the The June Lake Revitalization Committee, and we want you to be aware of some upcoming events: Winter Festival and Triple Threat Winter Triathlon (Feb. 1 - 3); Saturday Music Series (throughout the winter); and a March Snowmobile Rally (March 8 - 10). Details at http://visitjune.com/june-lake-events-calendar/

The June Lake Winter Festival is happening the weekend of February 1-3, 2013, and WE NEED YOUR HELP to create a successful event, to spread the word about what is going on, and to assist in any way you can. (Attached is a 2-page summary of the weekend to help you see ALL the great stuff planned!)

1. Build a Snowman or carve a Snow Sculpture in front of your business for the June Lake Snow Stroll – we’ll provide the snow on Friday morning, you provide the imagination and tools to finish your masterpiece before Saturday at 1:00pm. Guidelines for the Snowman/Sculpture competition coming soon.
2. Offer a free promotion or fun activity inside your business or shop to get visitors in the front door.
3. Provide supplies or resources to help construct our Family Fun Zone activities.
4. Volunteer for the Triple Threat Triathlon, the Family Fun Zone, or any other task that is needed.
5. Spread the word and get your neighbors or fellow business-owners excited to participate.
6. Encourage your friends to come to June Lake on this weekend.

It takes a Village…June Lake Village, that is!…to make a festival of this size happen. Please participate. Please volunteer. Most importantly, please have FUN!
Press releases and advertising to follow.

To participate, volunteer, or help in any way, please contact us: Sandra & Cara at info@greenfoxevents.com or Cara at (805) 550-2256

Thank you!
The Green Fox Events Team and the June Lake Revitalization Team.
