10-29 Recon.

So I wanted to see what the top looked like. So I grabbed Petey and my day pack and headed out.

They've taken down the handicapped parking and black pass parking signs.

The safety bars and seat cushions are gone from J1.

AT&T and Verizon were there.

A few spots down here had about 6".

SCE was up there too.

Deerbowl and Sunset might be doable if we get another foot up there.

Me and Petey had lunch at Stew Pot's.

I found a tree run that I haven't done before. It looks really great.

Malolo, I was very tempted to bring a rock board. If I had it would have been really hard NOT to go for first tracks, biggest reason I didn't bring it. If a friend was with me today for sure we would have gotten a couple of turns in. Was by myself with Petey and I do have rock boards but not any spare rock bodies. Don't want my season to end before it gets started.

Biker, I have a place where you can park that snowmobile. I will keep it in top shape for you. Just give me a couple of days notice when you are coming up to use it...

Wish I had one! Cuz I tell you ... that cat track from the base up to the Chalet would get it done, and:

snowmobile + empty ski resort on forest service land = your own private ski resort = ^_^

I think OGT mentioned the Forest Service having a role in monitoring activities at June.

Has there been any real indication how use is going to be administered during the closure?

Hook a sled up to the snow blower in OGT's front yard and bingo a ride up to the Chalet...

this is quoted from the article SL posted.

"Upham said that Mammoth Mountain submitted information on an operations plan this winter to secure the site of June Mountain. Upham had earlier said that this plan has to identify how the Mountain will provide for public safety and make sure infrastructure, equipment, and supplies are secured and monitored. The plan, she said, must address “monitoring, avalanche control, signage and emergency notification procedures.”

So for me at least, I'm just waiting to see what they are going to do.

A local told me today that they will have security up there and won't let anyone up. I'm hoping that that doesn't happen.
