Postby mtnrocker » Wed Jun 20, 2012 6:30 am

This thursday, all summer employees are being informed that they will not have a job this summer. They are not doing the dining thing on the deck and there is a great possibility that June will be closed for good..The money grubbing Corporation that owns it just doesnt want to deal w/ June's losses.....this came from 2-3 mid- level mgr types.....Carl, the GM is selling his house as is Lenny the food mgr........we'll see on thursday....all local media have been informed to be there.

Yikes. I was under the impression that June either broke even or made a bit of money the last several years.

Sure this isn't a ploy to get a better deal with the Rodeo grounds development?

I'll believe it when I see it.

We had plans to take visiting friends for a scenic J1 chair lift ride this Saturday (they are supposed to open tomorrow on 6/21 - why would they do all that advertising, create a webpage, order food, etc. if they weren't going to operate starting tomorrow?) http://www.junemountain.com/Summer

I learned my lesson about rumors from the restaurant thread.

Now that you mention it, I heard Whiskey Creek is moving to the June parking lot.

I went and talked to a bunch of people this morning. From a most reliable source, yes June Mtn Resort will be closed this summer and they are worried about winter.

I'm actually sick to my stomach.

Jeez ... I sure hope not. :(

There would be an issue should they decide to do that this upcoming season. There have been season passes sold with this statement:

June Mountain - Ride two mountains with one pass! Your MVP pass gets you full access to June Mountain with no blackout dates.

That would be a substantial change in terms ... I know an MVP is a lot less attractive to me without June Mountain. Probably wouldn't have bought one.

^ I believe you should be able to get out of your MVP due to this. I was once able to get out of an AT&T wireless contract early (without early termination fee) based on a very small change in terms. Although, I'm not a lawyer.

I'm no banker or financial adviser but MMSA has a nut that is about the size of the hill. But Starwood might just be squeezing locals like the locals squeezed them not allowing for the building of a real hotel/resort..

I really would not blame MMSA if they limited June days and hours. IE: 3 day a week resort. Do the people that live in the town really care about June Ski Mtn or then keeping there little town look?? If you live in a ski resort you need to be pro-ski resort. If not go live in a place like lee vining or bridgeport..

I hope this rumor isn't true because I will definitely miss boarding at June. That said it won't surprise me if Mammoth does close it or maybe try to sell it. Rusty said that the Rodeo Grounds development was needed to keep it open but some forum regulars didn't believe him even after the financials were posted.
It has to snow again eventually...right???

The people that live in June care about their ski resort. And we like the little town feel. I'm not going any further because I'm kind of upset today.

And snowfiend, I know the mayor of Lee Vining who also just happens to own the Lee Vinging Market. He has worked on ski patroll at Mammoth for many years. He is very active in the histroy of the Eastern Sierra also. Lee Vining is a great place to live. As is June Lake.

Maybe we could do like Green Bay did? Hell, they won a Super Bowl.

Anyone want to go in on a ski resort???
