It sounds like Rusty wants 1000 more beds available in June before he makes the investment in a new J1 - however since he didn't actually say that we don't know if that is true. We do know 1000 more beds are useless without a new J1 and possibly an extra chair as well. So without those investments June was guaranteed to fail. Hopefully Rusty or some new investor can meet with June and coordinate the new beds and J1 so that both parties can make an investment in something that will generate a return.

Too bad Dave didn't write a new J1 as a condition of the sale; sounds like it that had happened we might not be having this discussion.
I really do sometimes watch grass grow, just for fun. Could be due to spending all summer getting ready to finally plant grass..

That link http://www.coloradoskihistory.com/chair ... aninstalls refers specifically to Yan chairs.
just-emerging detachable-quad chairs

Which in Yan's case had a serious design flaw, which was exposed by the Whistler accident in 1995(?). All of the Yan detachables were replaced or in Mammoth's case extensively reengineered before the next season. And Yan went out of business.

By 1995 Mammoth and June skier visits had fallen by a third since the mid-1980's and June's marginal status remained despite the $$$ Dave McCoy spent in the previous decade. I'm sure he made the decision that he HAD to reengineer the Yan detachable chairs 1 and 16 at Mammoth ASAP and that it was not worth spending significant $ to fix the QMC.

Re: Bye Bye Wells Fargo Mountain?

Postby MountainNut » Sun Aug 05, 2012 12:04 pm

I'm convinced the ONLY thing that can save Wells Fargo Mountain (aka/formerly June Mt) from a complete shutdown next year or thereafter is some profit-inducing development at the Rodeo Grounds or nearby. Win-win! 2500 new beds, folks! Twin 10-story timeshare-condo hi-rises! 6 new restaurants. New casino for Wells Fargo Mt skiers & riders. Updated and expanded day-lodge at the base. Some new ski/board shops. Some clothing retailers! Medical MJ dispensary! Jobs, jobs, jobs!!! :P

June Lake leads California in jobs creation with construction everywhere. Housing prices double in only 2 years! MMSA CEO caves in and makes plan for new upgrade with J1 replacement.

June Lake is happy once again. 8-)

The old June Lake is but a quaint memory.. :wasntme:

Are the UFO people happy, windy???

What if there is another quaint scenario whereby nothing happens, June Mt. disintegrates and becomes defunct? Trees grow back on the runs, the towers are dismantled and the place goes back to nature.

Mammoth Mtn. avoids any future competition and stays on top.

Yes, THAT could happen. But what about the village people of June Lake ... ?

Today's article in The Sheet:

A tenacious community

June Lake continues efforts to survive upcoming winter season without the Mountain

and today's Mammoth Times article:

MMSA says it is not out of compliance with June Mountain permit

Mono County found neither precedent nor legal language it can use to put pressure on Mammoth Mountain Ski Area to keep June Mountain Ski Area open this winter. The special use permit MMSA operates under gives almost all of the discretionary power with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s U.S. Forest Service.

In addition, MMSA does not believe it is out of compliance with its special use permit with the Inyo National Forest. ...

...
I've been texting with Davey about June Mtn. Seems grandpa isn't too happy with Rusty and is actually thinking about "saving June". Really just a rumor though.... Don't know why Dave would do that but, strnger things could happen....

Not sure how true this is but I heard today that June is going to have a free shuttle this winter going to Mammoth. The person that told me said it was in the paper today. Not sure which paper she was talking about but I couldn't find it online. Perhaps SL can find it and post a link.

This is good news if it's true. I will definitely use it lots. And hopefully people will want to stay in June and use the shuttle.

Storm days and powder days plan B might have to be used.

I read this also on the " Friends of June " site. And the County is giving June $100,000 with the chance of another $100,000 in the future. I'll see if I can find it and link it.

Don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth but I hope it runs early. I like to get as close to first chair as I can.

Plus, I can drink beer and not have to worry about driving home.

Found it.

" Today's Board of Supervisors meeting was a great display of democracy and county government working to help save a community in crisis. Mono County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted in favor to give $100,000 to the community of June Lake to help develop events, advertise, and fund a transit service to Mammoth Lakes. Board also will have another $100,000 up for discussion if needed in the future.
The money will be monitored and spent under the advise of Mono County Tourism, The June Lake Chamber of Commerce and The Citizen Advisory Committee. The Board will also be kept up to date with the groups reporting back weekly on how the funds are being used.

Now lots of work to be done!! Thanks for everyone's support and concern for the June Lake Community!!!!!!!!!!!! "
