Aside from the craziness of Christmas and its surround weeks, lift operations is awesome. For example, if you are working any base chair 1, 2, 6, 11, 10, ect, the lines get to like 30-40 min during the busy days. Its kind of cool then, when you scan, cause all you have to do is talk to people. But, if you are watching people get on the lift, it can be super frustrating because of how many people fall, and how often you have to stop the lift.

I guess in the scheme of things, there could be a better job on the mountain, but I really wouldn't worry about being a lifty. You ride every day, you talk to friendly people, and for the most part, the job is really enjoyable. It's hard not to smile when you carry your snowboard/ski's out with you to work.

The only advice I can give you is pay attention in training, follow those rules, and don't try and bend them. If you fool around on the job, chances are you'll lose it. I.E. playing dodge with chairs or throwing snowballs. :P

Oh, don't do drugs in the huts. People get fired for that too, lol.

Edit: I just noticed your name. Do people call you twin-one and twin-two? :P

well i worked as a lifty at bear and i was curious because mammoth is such a big resort there might be better positions. i had a blast as a lifty, sounds like the same rules to me. Have fun, but respect the job. i liked the more fast paced chairs that more guests go through. im more entertained there with more people to talk to.

the twin thing yea, im twin 2 but only because i was born second. but then again half the time people dont know which twin they are talking to anyways....

I guess it depends on what you put into it but I loved working there. Plenty of friendly conversation (minus a few irate people), fairly simple work, ride breaks, great managers, tips if you work at food & beverage (usually about 25$ a day for me), reliable hours, plenty of team "bonding dinners", mid season raise, heaters, & endless hot cocoa ;).

If you don't have qualifications for the career positions at the Mountain (by far the "Best" jobs - they pay well and you have year-round work), then I'd strongly recommend working at the Call Center.

As long as you have a pass, I'd have to agree.

Sport shop is easy and you get ski breaks all the time. Night job is still the best. You get to the bar later or not at all.....
......you just lose your turn.
