questions from a newbie

Postby LukeWasHere » Fri Oct 21, 2011 6:08 pm

I'll be working at Mammoth starting in December and just had a couple quick questions

1. Do you have to get your own po box when you arrive?
2. Best place to live for employee housing

maybe more questions coming soon lol

Or you can use a friends PO Box until you get settled. Then get your own. You definetely don't have to get one right away.

it's easy to get a PO box so i would say do that. And for housing, it depends how much you want to spend. if it's just you i'd say 'The Chutes' because you have your own room but if you are coming with a friend then get a 2 bed place in 'Snowgoose'. Hope that helps you out :)

Friends of mine work at the P.O. and I've heard the nightmare stories about sharing a P.O. Box. They don't encourage sharing simply because of the inherent problems that come with it. Friends/roommates taking your mail and never getting it to you or losing it, losing keys, leaving town without paying for their share of the box when it's up for renewal, forwarding issues, etc.

General Delivery works OK but you have to be able to be at the P.O. during business hours when the front counter is open in order to collect your mail and sometimes, with working certain hours, it is not conducive.

Better to just get your own so you don't have to deal with future problems.

When you are expecting mail just go to the front counter and wait in line for 45 minutes, and tell them general delivery and show them some sort of picture id.

Thank you for all the replies so far!

3rd question : Do any of the employee housing have cable hookups in the bedroom or are they just out in the common area(living room)?

not the several times I've been in there. Maybe not 45 min, but it was over 10 minutes each time. It will probably only get worse. Point is, it's rare these days to walk up to a PO counter and get what you need right away.

get a PO box

Not sure how it works in Mammoth but in June you get one free PO Box per household. If you are living with someone else and they already have a Box you will have to pay for one. I've had people stay with me and use my box without any problems.

Just an FYI, PO Boxes are free in town if you show a copy of your lease.

Yeah, do get a PO Box. I have to ship stuff at least 3 or 4 days a week and rarely wait more than 10 minutes. If you are behind me that may be a different story.

I had to ship something today and waited in line all of ZERO seconds. 2 people working at the counter and nobody around.
