Some question for lift techs

Postby Jeffro » Sat Oct 08, 2011 8:37 am

Hello and good day. I will be moving nearby Mammoth in the near future and had a few questions for any lift techs that may happen to read this. I am currently an electrician in the utility field and was wanting to know if my skills would lay over to the lift field. Are they common controls and drives (motor starters/VFD's) like most motor circuitry or are they custom that require specific training?
Does it require a California License of any sort (journeyman/masters) to work on the lifts?
Is it a year-round job or seasonal? I have heard a lot of lifts also cater to mountain bikers in the off season?
Also, anyone know of employment opportunities in this area?
Thanks for any info.

I'm not part of the lift maintenance crew, but from what I've seen those jobs are full time year round. There is always work to be done on the lifts, preventative maintenance during the summer and making sure the lifts run correctly during the winter. They had a job posting for it up for like a year, but i just noticed its no longer up there. When I first saw this I thought it was someone's fancy name for lift operator, like the day I insisted I was a "lift master"

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know the "proper" name for this position or have any more info?
